Walkers has announced a series of crisp packet collection points across the UK, in answer to the successful #PacketInWalkers campaign by 38 Degrees, supported by 89up.

More than 330,000 people signed a petition, started by Geraint Ashcroft of Pontypridd, to persuade Walkers to take action on their non-recyclable packaging.

38 Degrees also encouraged its members to post used crisp packets back to Walkers in order to highlight the scale of their single-use plastic problem.

89up provided 38 Degrees with PR support throughout the campaign, securing coverage in international news outlets from CNN to Time Magazine. The campaign featured as the day’s most read news story on the BBC News website.

Robin Priestley, of 38 Degrees, said:

“89up really helped create a splash with our campaign. Where others may have given up on a story, they kept going. We ended up being the top read story on the BBC news, dozens of newspaper articles followed, and I was interviewed live on Sky and my colleague on ITV.”

89up are a dream to work with: they're quick, responsive, and understand what we're trying to achieve. I'm very much looking forward to working with them again.”
