The Part-Time Legal Director will provide expert legal advice and support to the organisation and associated companies on a broad range of legal and regulatory matters. The position is also client-facing at an Account Director level on campaign, policy and strategic communications projects relating to justice and international human rights.

Working on a flexible schedule, the role involves mitigating risk, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and contributing to the overall legal strategy of the business. The Legal Director will be a seasoned legal professional seeking a reduced hours commitment while maintaining a high-impact role.

Key Responsibilities:

Legal Advisory

  • Provide clear, practical, and business-oriented legal advice to management and teams across the organization.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, and other legal documents.
  • Assist with dispute resolution and provide guidance on risk mitigation.
  • Represent the organization in legal proceedings, negotiations, or settlements.

Compliance

  • Ensure the organisation complies with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Monitor changes in legislation and advise on implications for the business.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable laws, including corporate, employment, intellectual property, and data protection (ICO registration).

Corporate Governance

  • Support senior leadership in governance and regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in resolutions and other governance-related documentation.
  • Manage legal aspects of corporate transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, or restructuring.

Risk Management

  • Identify potential legal risks and provide proactive solutions to minimize exposure.
  • Develop and implement policies to address legal risks and ensure compliance.

Other Duties:

  • Support HR / Ops team in all employment law matters re. staff contracts, investigations and disputes.
  • Manage UK Visa portal for the company
  • Provide training to staff on compliance e.g. anti-corruption, GDPR, intellectual property etc.
  • Review and approve company insurance
  • Contribute to new business through drafting bids & attending pitches for work

Qualifications and Experience:

  • A qualified solicitor or barrister with a valid practicing certificate (or equivalent legal qualification in the relevant jurisdiction).
  • Previous in-house legal counsel experience preferred but not essential.
  • Exposure to media / communications / technology industries are an advantage.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, data protection, and employment law.
  • Ability to draft, review, and negotiate complex legal documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under time pressure and to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a part-time capacity.
  • Discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
