The challenge

European progress to climate neutrality is not being independently monitored. The EU’s own monitoring was incomplete and was not perceived as impartial. 

The brief

Establish ECNO as the one-stop-shop for tracking progress toward climate neutrality goals in the EU

89up worked with a consortium of pan-European climate organisations, and led on the communications strategy and outputs. 
We were tasked with developing the communications strategy and messaging, develop the brand, the online tracking platform and PR launch.

ECNO launched the summer of 2023 with its first flagship report. 

The brand

Through a explorative and collaborative process with the consortium, we developed a full visual identity for ECNO. A brand that makes science accessible, stands out in a crowd and shows optimism. We developed a brand book, social media templates and assets, presentation formats.

We developed the European Climate Observatory (ECNO) website in Drupal, incorporating dynamic formats that bring progress data to life.

Designed to make complex information accessible and engaging, the site allows users to explore progress towards EU climate neutrality goals based on sectoral and cross-sectoral areas defined as ‘Building Blocks’, as well as in depth analysis and key policy recommendations. This approach enables stakeholder audiences to navigate and understand progress insights, supporting informed decision-making recommendations and increased awareness of data gaps.
