Hosting Reporters Without Borders Free Expression Awards.

The Project

Our belief in freedom of expression and free independent media has always been a core value at 89up. So we were delighted that when global free-expression campaigners Reporters Without Borders wanted to move their prestigious Freedom of Expression awards event away from Paris to London, they came to us for help.

To help the organisation reach a new audience among English-language media, 89up supported RSF with everything from scouting the venue and on-the-night visuals to global media outreach. The event, honouring the courage and dedication of journalists around the world, was hosted by Channel 4’s Lindsey Hilsum, with live broadcast coverage by Al Jazeera and Agence France Presse.

Over 90 separate news stories were generated, including BBC broadcasts, a full page profile interview in the Sunday Times, and international coverage in India, Canada and the Philippines.
