THE CLIENT

Ahead of the CBD COP15 UN conference on biodiversity, a coalition of nature charities led by the RSPB approached 89up to put pressure on the UK government to show leadership on the biodiversity crisis.

The Project

The world is facing a biodiversity crisis. Worldwide, over one million species are threatened with extinction, with the global decline in nature putting climate, food, air and water security at risk.

Ahead of the CBD COP15 UN conference on biodiversity, a coalition of nature charities led by the RSPB approached 89up to put pressure on the UK government to show leadership on the biodiversity crisis.

We built a campaign website which allowed members of the public to write to Rishi Sunak asking him to lead an Urgent Conversation about the crisis. We worked with ambassadors including Chris Packham and Dr Amir Khan to produce video content to share on social media.

To highlight the campaign on the eve of COP15, we worked with international choreographer Sadeck Waff to create a ‘human murmuration’ - a choreographed performance inspired by the stunning display birds put on as they flock together in a dance-like movement, emphasising the importance of working together to create impact.

The murmuration performance has been viewed over 180,000 times and the campaign covered with significant features on ITV News, Channel 4 News, Times Radio, AFP, the Guardian, the Mirror and more. The story has reached 56 countries.
