About us
89up was founded with a clear mission to campaign for the world’s most important causes and inspire people to take action.

Our reach
We have an international team speaking 18 languages and a global network of associates to help us deliver campaigns across the world.
Our mission
89up is the global agency for charities, nonprofits and foundations
The idea for 89up came when our founder was in Belarus at the funeral of a murdered dissident and discovered that expensive western agencies were working for the country's brutal dictatorship. Autocratic governments and corporations could buy expert comms advice: it was time for NGOs and civil society to have an agency on their side with best in class talent and cutting-edge strategies and technologies.
We are now the world's largest independent agency for foundations and NGOs.
“ Working with 89up to develop our new website was a great experience. They really understood our brief and their experience in this sector meant that they instinctually delivered beyond what we even knew to ask for. Website development projects are complex and stressful but the team at 89up were incredibly supportive, organised, and responsive. Our new website does exactly what we hoped - tells our story, highlights our impact, and puts our supporters front and centre. We couldn't have done it without the vision and hard work of 89up. ”

Along the way, we’ve worked with global changemakers from world leaders including Kausea Natano, the Prime Minister of Tavalu; Nana Akufo-Addo, the President of Ghana; Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, former US Vice President Al Gore, and Sir Keir Starmer, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to prominent campaigners Sir David Attenborough, Greta Thunberg, Garry Kasparov and Vanessa Nakate.
“ 89up has been a key part of the Mobility Unlimited Challenge in communicating the ambitions of the Challenge and the journey so far. They have successfully developed a creative and compelling global campaign, engaged with key influencers to drive the conversation around lower-limb paralysis, and have been results driven. ”

Our name comes from a significant year in recent history: 1989 was the year the Berlin Wall came down and the World Wide Web went up.
Our mission remains consistent: we want to help our incredible clients fix the challenges that we collectively face as humanity.
In the era of the polycrisis, in which no person or country can isolate itself from the problems we face, we work to keep progress on the table.
“ The 89up team made magic happen! We came to them with a nearly impossible task - to conceive of and execute a compelling creative activation, with supporting PR, for a broad coalition of over 70 global charities leading up to the G7...all within a month. And boy did they deliver! They leveraged their relationships to help us secure media and corporate partners, were super speedy and patient with us as our targets constantly shifted and ultimately just became an extension of our team. There is no way we could have engaged the audiences we did, or delivered the incredible media coverage without them. ”

Whether it is fighting to uphold the UN SDGs, tackle climate change, protect fundamental human rights, release political prisoners, or giving children a healthy breakfast so they can learn in school, we work to win with our brilliant partners.
“ 89up’s experience with other non-profits was indispensable for an NGO like Finance Watch. They brought our campaign to the next level: from distilling key messages of a complex fiscal policy issue, putting it into an accessible web and video format, to placing it into the news at the right time. ”

Our values
89up is a cause commucations agency. We work with non-profits and foundations that exist for public benefit. We only work with clients where there is no conflict with our human rights standards and the UN SDGs.
We never work with autocratic governments or regressive political movements.
As we exist for non-profits, we vet who we work with closely to ensure they align with our values and we know exactly where their money comes from: we've turned down millions of pounds in business because of our ethics.
We are a net zero agency and we pay all taxes in full, with no avoidance or mitigation schemes.
89up has strong policies in our supply chain to protect against human rights violations and climate damage.
Everything we do is dedicated to fighting for climate action, social justice and economic fairness.
Our policies
89up’s tax policy
- 89up does not use tax havens, offshore bank accounts or use abusive non-EU or non-UK shell companies to avoid taxation.
- We do not undertake tax avoidance e.g. by using artificial or abusive transactions to reduce taxes paid.
- 89up aims to abide by the Fair Tax Foundation's benchmark for companies. We have a clear reference to a trading address; it is clear who the ultimate beneficial owners of all shareholdings of more than 10% in the company are; and the names of all directors are provided in the accounts and online.
89up’s human rights policy
- Upholding and enhancing universal human rights is a founding principle of 89up.
- We have embedded the enhancement of human rights in our own working practices and in our supply chain.
- We have the strictest protocols on due diligence for the third parties we work with. In particular, we never work directly and avoid indirectly working with autocratic governments, or companies who infringe on fundamental human rights.
