Summary of Job
We are looking for a designer for a one-year placement to work as part of our in-house Studio (creative & content production) and Labs (web) teams. The role is a combination of web and print design, with a lot of opportunity to explore and expand skills.

You will need strong experience in digital and print design with a minimum of 4 years in the design industry; to produce a range of outputs including:

  • Social content: Working closely with our digital Advocacy team to deliver content for targeted paid social campaigns, and help support our client servicing team in delivery.
  • Print design: Producing reports, event collateral and more
  • Brand development: Creating visual identities for organisations or shorter lived campaigns.
  • Web Design: A good understanding of web design - user needs, defining user flows, creating wireframes and prototypes, designing user interfaces, usability testing, communicating with developers and iterating designs based on user and client feedback.

You will have a strong understanding of the creative parameters for all these different outputs and be able to apply them in response to a brief. You will need to be able to contribute to the creative development of these various outputs working from a brief from clients or colleagues in other teams through to the final product. You will be a smart self-starter who can think on their feet and juggle multiple projects and client requests while keeping a cool head. Previous experience working in an agency would be ideal. The role is client facing at times, so some experience in liaising with clients is essential,

You will be reporting into our Head of Design, but also be able to provide guidance to our junior designers where required, and regularly work with our Creative Lead, digital and integrated account managers across the agency in the delivery of your work.

Business Overview

89up is Europe's first impact agency. We campaign for great causes, build technology, tackle complex problems and inspire action. 89up was founded with a clear mission: to create a powerful integrated communications agency for the world’s most important causes. In the last eight years, we’ve become one of the Financial Times 1,000 fastest-growing companies in Europe, twice and won awards for some of the biggest non-profit campaigns around the world.

We are a fully integrated communications agency with four main teams:

  • Our Studio team crafts beautiful content including graphic design, animation and live action video
  • Our Advocacy, Insights and Mobilisation team delivers data-driven insights for impactful strategies to mobilise audiences
Labs team builds innovative websites and bespoke advocacy tools to engage consumers and decision-makers
  • Our PR team makes sure our campaigns make the headlines.

From freeing political prisoners to taking on the banks who fund the climate crisis, to EU campaigns against fossil fuels to PR campaigns for many of Europe’s biggest charities, to global challenges that excite people the world over, there is genuinely never a dry moment at 89up.

We put a huge emphasis on training and promotions - with promotion and pay reviews twice a year. In 2022 to help combat the impact of inflation we gave a baseline pay increase of 10% across the board with bonuses and promotions on top. Some members of the team have been promoted twice in a single year. You will get a lot of attention from seniors with significant experience helping you to grow in the role. This is a company that is growing quickly, so there’s plenty of room for career development.
