Case study: GMB

89up was approached by one of Europe’s biggest trade unions (GMB) to assist them in explaining to their members why the union was backing the Remain vote during the UK’s referendum on its EU membership. We worked with the union to create a highly shareable film for social media that had GMB members explain in their own words why they wanted the UK to stay in the European Union. The film was made for Facebook primarily - but had to be shareable on other platforms including Youtube - and had to appeal directly to GMB members.


To seed the video we worked with major social media influencers including MPs, journalists and prominent campaigners to seed the film and our PR team placed the film in The Guardian, Irish News, Left Foot Forward and Labour List.

The film was the most watched film on workers’ rights during the entire EU referendum and reached millions of UK voters.
